How to choose your dog’s name?
Who knows if dogs could talk what would they name themselves!
Choosing a dog’s name is an important moment that must involve all the family. Sometimes we argue about the election up until we can find a solution that satisfies all.
Some may prefer traditional names, other search for an original and fanciful one. If by the contrary the dogs come from a shelter that has already given them a name, you can maybe take a hint and use an abbreviation.
Dogs are very intelligent beings but we do not speak the same language, so remember that the word-name will react more to a word-sound and they will identify with it because after listening to it all the time, something will happen. For them to get used to it, you can teach them their name by treating them with a cookie every time you call them.
Our advise is to choose a not very long name, of course effective when calling the dog. Obviously it must be unique and not be similar to any of the other animals’ in the household names.
Don’t even use names that by their homophony (Greek for 'sound similar') can be associated with the words of commands or objects that will be used with them (for example, sit, roll, catch, come, ball, stick, etc.)
We also do not recommend words that suggest a sound or a noise in particular, like the ones in comics.
Also, once the decision has been made, you cannot change the name because if you do, the dog will be at risk of getting confused. Also avoid typos and nicknames, even if they are cute, for the same reason as said before.
If you want a particular name, get inspiration from a movie or cartoon with an animal as the main character, in the gods of mythology or in a type of dance.
For a name that also reflects your taste, you can use the name of your favorite band, your favorite tam or place you have been to.
Many trainers believe that many owners can give human qualities to their pets using personal names, even if they are trendy at that moment.
What happens if you adopt adult dogs that already perfectly acknowledge their names? They don’t necessarily have to keep the same name, you can choose a new one and take the time to teach it to them.
You still haven’t decided? Take some time to get to know your new furry friends better and according to their appearance and character, the perfect name for them will come.
And when you have found it, create a customized image that immediately will make you think in your dog: their pawprint with their name and the color you like the most.
